Tragedy in Arizona today

08 Jan

Today there was a terrible shooting in Tucson Arizona even now 12hrs later the facts are pretty unclear. However in short we know that Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was shot at essentially point blank range as well as 18others. At least 5 are dead and the Congresswoman is in critical condition. Beyond that I don’t wish to speculate. There is one suspect in custody and possibly one more still on the run. The individual who was arrested today is Jared Lee Loughner a 22yr old “stoner/ loner from the area” This idiot obviously had some mental issues and needed help. I don’t feel sorry for him at all and I hope that he spends a very long time in jail and never gets the satisfaction of a death penalty sentence.

However just as troubling as the events today is the reaction by so many political groups trying to “never let a crisis go to waste” like the Obama administration is so fond of saying. Paul Helmke of the Brady campaign wasted no time putting together a press release blaming everybody from the NRA to Sarah Palin for this action. While this disgusting reaction doesn’t surprise me at all and is at best bar for the course for the Brady bunch it maddens me that we cant let the facts come in. Also when will we learn that there is a MASSIVE difference between words and action. Just because Sarah Palin used the term target to focus on specific congressional races does not mean she wished to see anyone killed.

Finally situations like this are EXACTLY why concealed carry is so important. This crowd had many people in it and I can only assume that if there were a few CHL holders in the crowd this shooting could have been ended far quicker before so many people had to be shot. It would not have prevented the first shots from being fired but it would have ended it MUCH quicker.

As more facts come in I will post some updates.
